The Fresno County Board of Supervisors has named Raman Bath as the new Fresno County Librarian. Mr. Bath is a 16-year employee of the Fresno County Public Library (FCPL) and has served as Interim County Librarian since February of this year following the retirement of former County Librarian, Kelley Landano.
Throughout his more than 16 years of service in the Fresno County Public Library System, Mr. Bath has progressively promoted to positions of increasing responsibility including Public Services Librarian, Supervising Librarian, and most recently Associate County Librarian.
Mr. Bath served as the Associate County Librarian beginning in November 2017, overseeing Public Services, Facilities Services, the Library’s Information Technology Division, and the Department’s Human Resource Division. He has also provided oversight of the San Joaquin Valley Library System, a consortium of ten library jurisdictions throughout the Valley.
He spent the early part of his career working in teen and adult programming at Caruthers, Riverdale and the west side communities of the County. His work in e-services helped library customers and staff navigate the web and databases as the Library moved to strengthen its online presence.
As Principal Librarian, he managed the Infrastructure Division of the Fresno County Public Library where he was responsible for renovations, maintenance and construction of all library buildings.
Says Bath, “I believe the public library’s responsibilities don’t end at our walls, but extend anywhere our services are needed to everyone in the community.”
Mr. Bath earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University of Fresno and then went on to earn two Master degrees. He earned a Master of Arts degree in Humanities from California State University of Dominguez Hill and earned his Master of Library Information Science (MLIS) from San Jose State University.
